About Me

Caroline Noakes, gardener

I come from a family of head gardeners.

My grandfather, John “Jack” Willis, was head gardener at Luton Hoo Estate. Two of my uncles followed similar paths – one overseeing private estates, the other tending the grounds of Whipsnade Zoo. Gardening has always been part of my world.

Before working with plants, I spent years as a jewellery and leather designer.

That background has shaped my approach – precise, tactile, and design-led. Over the past decade, I’ve immersed myself in local gardens and formalised my training with the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture.

This hands-on qualification deepened my proficiency in plant care, pruning, propagation, and seasonal maintenance – skills I now bring into every garden I work with.

I specialise in regenerating existing gardens.

My work is grounded in naturalistic planting with structure – swathes of perennials, grasses, and seasonal movement. I focus on small urban spaces, particularly courtyard gardens and established plots that need fresh thinking.

I’m not a landscaper, but I design and plant borders, source and select plants, and provide ongoing garden maintenance. When needed, I work with my trusted RHS network of horticultural collaborators.
